Day 1: Nairobi - Samburu Game Reserve
This morning travel by road for journey via the Equator line from the Southern to the Northern hemisphere to the Samburu Game Reserve a dramatic semi-arid scrubland of the Kenya’s Northern Frontier District of the Kenya's Contrast Wildlife region excellent for the photographer. Arrive at the camp/ Lodge in time for lunch followed by some leisure hours for a siesta/swim before you depart at around 16:00hrs for an afternoon game viewing and return back to the camp/lodge before sunset.
Wild and rugged, Samburu is fiercely beautiful with its arid savannahs watered by the lovely Uaso Nyiro River. It is also one of Kenya’s most protected areas and home to species only found north of the equator, from the reticulated giraffe to Grevy’s zebras, Beisa oryxes, and giraffe necked gazelle (gerenuk), and the Blue-necked Somali Ostrich. It also boasts the highest Elephant Population in Kenya. The scenery is unrivalled –numerous hills, valleys and scrublands stretching to the horizon.
This reserve offers the best chance of seeing the Elusive Leopard along the riverine forest watch out for the beautiful Africa sunset with the orange sun setting behind the numerous hills. Dinner and overnight at one of the luxurious Samburu lodges/ Camps along the banks of the Uaso Nyiro River.
Day 2: Samburu Game Reserve
Further exploration of this fascinating reserve continues. This morning you will leave for the morning wildlife safari drives for more interaction with the wildlife. Early mornings are cool, serene and peaceful. This is when the wild animals are still active before the heat of the day sends them to hiding. You will return back for breakfast and spend the rest of the morning at leisure to enjoy the camp’s/lodge’s facilities like the swimming pool or extra activities like nature walks. You can also sit and enjoy the views of the wild from your room balcony. Lunch at the lodge/camp then at 16h00 return to the park for more wildlife experience. Return back to the lodge, wash off the dust and sit and enjoy the sumptuous buffet dinner in the open restaurant and thereafter a traditional dance group performance. Dinner and Overnight at one of the luxurious Samburu lodges/ Camps along the banks of the Uaso Nyiro River.
Day 3: Samburu Game Reserve - Sweetwaters Game Reserve
After breakfast, depart for Sweetwaters Game Reserve that gives sanctuary to Rhinos from those who would take their lives to sell their horns and a remarkable Chimpanzee Sanctuary is operated here where you meet the primates face to- face arriving in time for lunch. This Sanctuary comprised of riverine forest and savannah grasslands and is the home to 26 orphaned, mistreated chimpanzees. Your camp also overlooks one of the busiest waterholes in the area and offers elephant, giraffe and myriad plains game. It enjoys magnificent views across the plains to the snow-capped peaks of Mt Kenya and has an abundance of wildlife. After lunch, enjoy an afternoon game drive. Dinner and overnight at the camp.
Day 4: Sweetwaters Game Reserve - Lake Nakuru National Park
You will depart after an early breakfast by road for the Ornithological paradise Lake Nakuru National Park which supports a wide ecological diversity of flamingos and other water birds – over 450 bird species have been recorded here. Arrive at around 12.30 pm and begin a game drive en route to Camp/lodge for check in and lunch. Relax till 4.00 pm where you will head on for another game drive and nature walk along the lake shores and return back to the camp/lodge before sunset.
Lake Nakuru is a shallow alkaline lake famous for its flamingo population estimated to be more than a million hence it is referred to as the ‘Birds Paradise’ by bird watchers. There are no elephants in the park but the other big five can be spotted including tree climbing lions, the white and the black rhinos which are endangered species in Kenya, the rare Rothschild Giraffe, Cape buffaloes, Waterbucks, Gazelles, Leopard and primates etc can be spotted as well at the park. Dinner and overnight at the Lodge/camp.
Day 5: Lake Nakuru National Park - Nairobi
After breakfast proceed for a morning game/bird drive around the lake shores. Return back to the lodge/camp for a big buffet lunch then pack up and head to Nairobi stopping at the Rift Valley viewpoint for some stunning photo opportunities. The Rift Valley runs 6000 kms from the Red Sea into Mozambique and is up to 100km’s wide in places. After a photo opportunity at the viewpoint and a chance to enjoy the spectacular view we head to Nairobi arriving early afternoon.
